Begastri's archelogical park is placed in a small summit of oval plant which top is surrounded by a solid wall of ashlars, with towers and in which there are known till now two of his doors. The occupation of the deposit spreads at least from Iberian epoch up to the 11th century A.D., in that the poblamiento moved to the current historical hull of the nearby Cehegín, inheritor of the city, but it reached his maximum height in epoch tardoantigua when, apparently, it used as bridgehead of the kingdom visigodo as Toledo opposite to the Byzantine province, which administrative capital was in Carthago Spartaria (current Cartagena).

The identification of these episcopal headquarters raised some problems until ends of the 19th century, when the appearance of an inscription epigráfica in the Summit Roenas de Cehegín cleared all the doubts. The uncertain identification of this place gave name to Bigastro's from Alicante locality, where erudite some of them of the 18th century believed that one was finding this former city.

It is calculated that Begastri could have approximately 12.000 inhabitants.

During the whole Begastri's episcopal life certain Bishops were outlined as Vicencio who during Guendemaro's reign visited Toledo as far back as the years 603 to 610. And with posteriority at the different Councils that are celebrated in Toledo the Bishops of Begastri are present: Bigitino, Biberio, Egila, Proculo.. Etc.

In the year 688 Begastri it stops being an episcopal headquarters and a quarter of century afterwards Teodomiro signs the agreement with the Arabs, the zenehegíes were settling themselves in Puntarrón's Summit giving place to what serious the people of Cehegín. As soon as that agreement is ruined in the year 789 the Christians living in Moorish part of Spain occupy Begastri.

The most interesting findings realized in this deposit, as well as in his environment, can be contemplated in Cehegín's Archaeological Museum.

A local and regional emblem found in the deposit is Begastri's Monogrammatical Cross, one of the ancient mas of Spain. The Crismón is a cross in bronze of whose arms they hang an alpha and an omega; the head-board contains Christ's monogram joined by a chain to another cross mas small inscribed in a circle. Close to this cross two dolphins were situated with weld of iron that possibly they could hang from the ends. If the cross is located in the world visigótico the dolphin could be considered to be a savior of souls. This type of crossings were in use in the consecration of churches and altars and they are in the habit of being in necropolis tardoromanas of the IVth century and V.

For what he has been in the documents and traditions that they can appreciate in the past land registries, the hill that uses as accession to our deposit was in the habit of being designated as The Summit of the Millstone, undoubtedly because The Millstone is the name of the toponym of all that place, but nowadays, the name of Roenas's Summit (=Ruins) has displaced the previous one. It seems to be clear that this nomenclature owes to the entire restructuring of names realized by the villagers in the whole field and the rural areas of our Region from remote times, and that generally attends to a characteristic very marked with this certain emplacement, which for them has ensued from major importance that any other consideration, at the moment of giving a name. The ruins that can be spied there by many facility from any point of the surroundings have formed this clear and determinant sign that the new toponymy needed, and the conscience of a population accession in the place was never forgotten completely.

About 1920, the Summit was cut in two parts to plan a track for which there had to spend the railroad (today left) that was joining Caravaca with Murcia; the persons who were employed at this work in those days still remember to have buried in a nearby sima " many stones with letters "
